I would cycling 1,000 miles

… and I would cycle just a couple more”

Day 15 was pretty tough for me. It would have only been 16 degrees, but with sun the whole day and not enough water, I wasn’t feeling my best. Nurse Lucy did well at lunch to give me back rubs, words of encouragement and plenty of H20. All was then fine.

We cycled from Onich (near Fort William) to Drumnadrochit and, despite some lovely Lochs and scenery, we both felt like the end could not come soon enough. In the words of Ronan Keating, life is a rollercoaster, just gotta ride it.

Despite my somewhat negative feelings, we passed through Fort William and Fort Augusta which are both stunning and places you could easily drive by and stop at for an ice cream or photo with a chap playing bagpipes for keepsakes. Beautiful areas with a million B&Bs – they must know something.

The afternoon was a hard slog with more beautiful scenery but we have clearly got one eye on a photo at John O'Groats and some bottles of red wine on the train home.

Route: Onich to Drumnadrochit Distance: 63 miles Weather: The weather man said it would rain all day. He was wrong! Sunny and warm all day but felt stinking hot to us as we were wearing our waterproofs
